I have glee! I unexpectedly got to climb last weekend. Saturday, as I was working at my job (yes, I worked last Saturday, and it did indeed suck, but I needed the money), I got a text message from my unofficially adopted daughter. She invited me to climb with her! I met them at another rock gym at 5 pm and climbed until 7 pm. She paid for my visitor's pass.

It was EXCELLENT!

Also, I've contacted my gym and asked about being trained to use the auto-belay. I'm determined to get more climbing done.

Friday glee was dealing with a broken laptop and consequent lack of internet. :(

All fixed now, but thanks for getting the post up!

That all sounds excellent!
I'm currently visiting in Berlin (leaving in an hour) and yesterday I went climbing here, which was just perfect. Though now I'm sad because we don't have anything nearly as good at home.

It's definitely worth a trip! It's very exciting to see the changes (I too hadn't been since before the wall came down) and there's just so much to do. Not just the climbing. But ohh, the climbing! Here's another spot that I only discovered when I was back home, with a great overhang boulder.

My aunt had been nagging for years that I should come and visit, and now that I finally went I can't wait to go back.

What also pleasantly surprised me was that the city completely reconstructed its infrastructure so that now you can go practically everywhere by bike. You see bikes all over the place which 15 years ago would have been unthinkable.

Outdoor traverses! Now I'm sad that London doesn't have anything comparable. :(

Yeah, my own town of Münster suddenly seems very provincial, climbing-wise.

You don't have any nice stone walls along the river Thames or something like that, where you can traverse?

Not that I've found, yet. Googling suggests that some have been tried, but they are tide-dependent and tend to be damp ...

Can you post about your experiences with the auto-belay, once you've had that training? I'm curious how that works.
