rydra_wong: Lisa Rands' chalky hands on the sloper on the route Gaia (climbing -- hands)

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee, have a Tweet: Twitter / MinaClimbing: Eek...I just did Careless Torque! :)

Translation: Mina Leslie-Wujastyk just did the first female ascent of the legendary gritstone highball Careless Torque.

ETA: Picture!

Hopefully it was caught on film; in the meantime, here's Ned Feehally on it a few years back.

Well, I'm still just climbing once a week, but at least I'm getting that! Last week I started working on some harder routes. It's been slow getting back. My endurance is improving, but my technique is slow to return. ARGH.

Still love it, though. I think this love affair with rock climbing may never end. (grin)

After some months of really irregular climbing, my proficiency plummeted. And that's been making it hard to get back on the walls again; it's frustrating to go climbing when I'm doing more poorly than I used to, and of course the less I go the worse it gets... But I've been plowing on through anyway, to try to at least halt the decline, if not reverse it.

Anyway, after too long of only being able to climb V0s (and not even all of those), I sent a new V1 today, cleanly, on my first attempt. It's an interesting slab one, and if it's on the easy side for a V1, it's still appropriately labeled and all that. So. Go me. I am getting better again, little by very little.

YAY! I am going through the same thing. I had been climbing up to 5.9s top-roping. But the partner I had was irregular at best, and then dropped out of sight completely. So I started walking in the warm pool, and climbing once a week with a friend who is an excellent climber. My endurance is increasing, and I'm back doing 5.8s - FINALLY.

So I totally relate, and I say GO YOU! Sending a V1 after being irregular is great progress.
