rydra_wong: Lisa Rands' chalky hands on the sloper on the route Gaia (climbing -- hands)
[personal profile] rydra_wong posting in [community profile] disobey_gravity
The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: Ned Feehally on Careless Torque.

Last week I climbed with my unofficially adopted daughter and had a great time. I've found some great new routes in the gym. One that is full of bubble holds and requires lots of forearm strength and good foot placement to get up! We're climbing again this morning and I'm all psyched up to try that route again.

Bubble holds are holds that are oddly shaped and look like a bunch of connected bubbles. They have shallow indentations, but more grip than a sloper. They will work the hell out of your forearms. (grin)

Hm, I may need a climbing icon.

I've now used the bouldering wall three times and have managed to do a couple of the easy routes more or less using the holds I'm supposed to use for the routes; some routes I haven't figured out or don't quite have the reach for, I'm not sure which, so I 'cheat' and use whatever is in range. I discovered a really nifty wall problem yesterday which involves going sideways for a while before you go up. And then a blister on my pinky ripped open and couldn't use that hand to grip much, so I'll be giving it a few days to recover.

I didn't quite get in as much climbing as I had wanted, so I switched to the weight room and practiced dips. With my pinkies out, because it's classy I'd otherwise be in pain. :)

ARGH! Flappers! I hate them I have one on the index finger of my left hand. Got it yesterday climbing.

When I first started climbing sometimes I'd leave the gym with multiple flappers on both hands.

I hadn't had one in a long time when I got the one yesterday. I just put tape on them and go on. (grin) But I pay for it later. I came home, carefully pulled the tape off, clipped the flapping skin away and then put a bandaid over it.

I discovered last night that's a primary finger for teeth flossing. ARGH!

Because I work at a university! It's really more of a student gym that I sneak into.

A climbing gym at work?! Oh, deep envy.

Secret perks of being a professor . . . They only staff it in the evenings, though.

Still have envy. (grin) I'm lucky that my gym has long hours - 11 to 11 most days. But one maintained by your work? That's just luxury personified. (grin)
