The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. The Arch 2 has opened and it's full of slabs! \o/

I looooove slabs.

One of the staff, who also loves slabs, was reporting with amusement on the number of super-strong power boulderers who climb very hard on the steepest overhangs and roofs and who have been leaving the Arch 2 covered in grazes and bruises and muttering darkly about sandbag grading.

(I have also been leaving the Arch 2 covered in grazes and bruises, but that's no different from my normal climbing.)

I think slab climbing is good for me (which isn't quite the same as loving it!), but the local wall only has slab routes up to 6A+ ATM. I find corners and overhangs worse for knee-skinning...

This is why I tend to climb in my Moon climbing jeans until the hottest part of the summer. I recognize that I need a protective layer of denim wherever possible. *g*

In the end four of us from work went climbing yesterday, and much fun was had. I got one 6B I'd not seen before, and almost another (fell off the last move!). I'm not getting much climbing thusfar this year, so it felt particularly good :)

Hey, a question: how did you get started in trad? I know in a past post you mentioned a weekend with an instructor -- was that at Plas y Brenin, or something else?
