rydra_wong: Lisa Rands' chalky hands on the sloper on the route Gaia (climbing -- hands)
[personal profile] rydra_wong posting in [community profile] disobey_gravity
The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: the second trailer for Life on Hold from Outcrop Films, due out on DVD/download April 2012.

Well, I'm climbing this week, which is good. The arthritis in my hands is acting up, though, and I did a 5.7 with pocket holds. VERY bad idea. I've had swollen knuckles ever since.

BUT, on the other hand, CLIMBING! Just on juggy holds. (grin)

That makes sense. Unfortunately my gym only has one slab wall. I do SO love it, though!

The Arch is expanding (moving? it was not clear) to right round the corner from me! Thus making it way way easier for me to return to climbing in a few weeks.

Usually I climb V0s, when bouldering. If they're not on a nasty overhang, I can almost always get a V0 eventually. And then just recently, I finally beat a V1 for the first time.

On Wednesday, I spent eight or nine tries on working out a fiendishly tricky crux on a new V0+ at the gym... and finally sent it. It was a glorious moment of success. And on the same trip, I got to the last-but-one hold on a new V1, and finished another V1 in a "oops, I used one foothold that wasn't mine" sense. So...didn't send either, but I was getting a lot closer.

Friday, I went back and sent one of those V1s.

This morning, I went back and sent the other one.

It has been a good week in climbing.
