rydra_wong: Lisa Rands' chalky hands on the sloper on the route Gaia (climbing -- hands)

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: 15 mins of slate action from Pete Robins and Nic Sellars (N.B.: this is one of the mini-films from Hard XS, so if you enjoy it, please consider supporting climbing filmmakers by lobbing some cash their way: it's a nifty film and you can buy the DVD here, or rent or buy it for download here).

I'm climbing this weekend with two friends I haven't climbed with in over two months. That's my glee for this week! I love them both, and have missed climbing with them.

I have that book! In the original edition, not the modern re-print! It was a wedding present from some awesome friends :-)

I got to go to the south gym where all the belaying stuff is this week. Yay! (I do a lot more bouldering mostly because I can go alone, not because I prefer it.) Also at the south gym: a free yoga class that turned out to be more brutal than the actual climbing. Who knew that moving slowly between simple positions for an hour could be that painful and exhausting?

The climbing gym offers two free yoga classes a week, and it does seem like a good combo! ...but good lord, I wish they offered some sort of proto-class for utter newbies, because I can't do half the stuff in the basic class anyway.

I think this week's glee was probably the granite quarry climbing I snuck late into last week's post. But I went climbing yesterday, and some things I'd struggled up before felt nice this time, so that's good.

Alas, no climbing for me for a couple of weeks now. Well, unless I get /really/ twitchy...
