Another climbing-free week :( All my partners are away.

...which means it was a bad week to remind me that buildings are climbable ;-)

I did my first boulder problem where you have to run, jump and kick off the wall to grab the starting hold. It was an easy one (relatively speaking), but I feel so badass. Wuxia skillz, I can haz.

Cool! How long 'til you start entering Dynoing competitions? :-)

However long it takes until I actually get good at dynos (give it a couple of centuries, maybe ...).

Stuff like this gives me great glee because it's one of my big climbing weaknesses.

ooooh! Which one?

My glee: I went climbing. Only the once, but I went! Right now this is a bit of an achievement all by itself. Also, while there, I solved a problem that had been baffling me. It turned out to be physically pretty straightforward -- though involved using a corner (bother have lost the correct word) of wall as a hold, which I used to be rubbish at and therefore am pleased whenever I do it now -- but I'd been starting from completely the wrong position.

After that I went up it twice, just for fun :)

Also there are some nice bridge-y / lever-y problems in the corner of the 5% slope in the new front room at the Arch, which I am enjoying.

ooooh! Which one?

The red-and-black V3, just next to the 5 degree slab. Which is really a V0 apart from the run-jump-kick start (and it is a V0 for people who are tall enough to reach up and grab the starting hold from standing, which a few people are). But I've never ever managed one of those before, or even imagined that I might at some future point.

Which was the problem you triumphed over?

The triumph-y problem was at the back of the left-hand bit of the old back room. One of the green & white spotty ones.

Whoot! That is badass. I haven't managed that yet myself but I've been trying. I find it so tricky to convert my forward motion into an upward motion, rather than just bouncing backwards off the wall.

Exactly! I spent a lot of time hitting the wall with a resounding thud and stubbing my toe, and only got it after a fellow boulderer helpfully explained that I needed to run at the wall from THIS angle and have my right foot land on the wall exactly THERE.

But I got it. Much to my immense surprise.

I just climbed up my very first bridge. It was a good opportunity to try out my new crashpad. It's not a high bridge - a bike lane underpass - and not a difficult problem but it felt just a little too high for me to do it without a mat. Really makes a psychological difference to have that thing lying there just in case.

\o/ I enjoy the sense that I'm developing some outdoor judgment about what's too high and when I need a mat, even if it's primarily a sense of what I'm comfortable with or not.

If that sentence is at all coherent.

I SO enjoy reading everyone's comments and glee. I climbed a hard route I'd been struggling with and did it better and faster.
