Friday glee still doesn't know why red socks are a thing

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

To enhance this week's glee: Sou'wester Slab, a classic VDiff on Arran, 75 years on. Some "support the BMC!" promotion which may be less relevant to people in other countries, but plenty of shots of gorgeous rock to keep you going.

I still have glee because of friends coming climbing (again!)

I bought my first iceaxe! I feel proud and respectful, it's like I graduated to a higher level of girlscouts! I'm also doing my first multi-day winter trek this weekend (where I'll be using the iceaxe, I've done crampons + trekking sticks stuff before but there's one optional bit that won't be doable on sticks and I don't want the team to have to skip it because of me). I've hiked on 2 consecutive days before, but always with sleeping in heated cabins as opposed to unheated refuges (basically a wood or metal shed on a mountain) and this is going to be -10 celsius before the windchill, and 60km/h wind.
