rydra_wong: Lisa Rands' chalky hands on the sloper on the route Gaia (climbing -- hands)

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: Hazel Findlay and Alex Honnold do Australia. I've loved their dynamic (mutual rudeness and obvious friendship) ever since I saw Africa Fusion.

Cool video.

I'm still not climbing, but I am working out regularly to keep in shape for climbing.

And today I'm going to go try some deep tissue massage on my left hip. Turns out an x-ray revealed calcium deposits on the ligaments where they connect to the bone. The hope is that deep tissue massage will break those up. I'll find out.

It was incredibly painful. I have small bruises (fading now with icing) on the points where the ligaments join the bones. But the hip was much looser after the treatment, and much less painful to sleep on, despite the bruises. So I'd say it was a success. I'm going to give it another go next week. I'm hoping it will continue to improve.

Climbing kept it much more flexible, but a very arthritic knee doesn't let me do treadmills or stairs, and the elliptical doesn't really do much for flexibility with the hip. (Which is the point, it's supposed to NOT flex the hip and knee as much so people with bad hips and knees can use it).

Saw this article, and it sounds like London is rich in great climbing places: http://www.coachmag.co.uk/sport/5150/the-best-places-to-go-rock-climbing-in-london

How odd! I wonder why it wasn't mentioned? It is interesting and wonderful that there are so many places to climb.

It makes me all the more sad about my own little town and our one gym which is still out of service!

Well, I still think it's a shame they didn't include your gym.

And yes, sadface, indeed. We're still waiting for news on our gym reopening. (sigh)

I actually got climbing this week! My fingers ... were not as hard as once they were, and my stamina has vanished entirely, but I still had fun :-)

My shoes hurt less this week, so I'm hopeful this means they are going to prove to be the correct size...
