As a climber in the '80s, sf/f writer M. John Harrison bore a notable resemblance to Mirror Universe Spock.
(Seriously: M. John Harrison is a favourite writer of mine. The Viriconium novels warped my worldview at an impressionable age, and since I started climbing myself, I've learned that Climbers -- his single non-genre book -- is one of the best things ever written about climbing. So, actually finding a photo of him climbing -- oh, and here's another -- gives me a kind of poignant glee.)
