rydra_wong: Lisa Rands' chalky hands on the sloper on the route Gaia (climbing -- hands)

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: Shauna Coxsey on Whispers of Wisdom.

No climbing for me this week, because I'm in North Carolina at the Writers' Police Academy. (grin) It's a workshop for writers that puts you through some of the programs that police recruits, fire fighters, EMS and others go through to learn to do their jobs. It's going to be very cool, but very hard.

So that's my squee this week!

I'm still working on mastering the low level routes, but I've got the hang of one of the V0s, and inconsistently managed two others. One of the later I managed to do using only the foot and handholds for the route for the first time; I should have then done it again a couple of times instead of moving on to other routes, but I did not and when I got back to it I couldn't remember what I had done. Ah well, next time!

It has been incredibly cool. Today I did firearms training (with scenarios via a simulator - very nerve wracking), talked to a bomb disposal expert and tried on a bomb suit (that sucker is HEAVY), did a building search with a SWAT team member, tried to learn to intubate (using a dummy - 'cause otherwise that sucker would not have made it), and met police dogs and motorcycle cops. It was very, very cool.

Ooo, I hate it when I can't remember how I did a route. You have my sympathy.

I went lead climbing again and already felt much more comfortable with the clips than I did on the course two weeks ago.
And I decided to try a few actually graded boulder problems (usually I only do the circuits) and I can actually climb pretty well up to V2 \O/
I was sure I was only managing the V0 parts of the circuit or the single V1 at the most :D
