rydra_wong: Angelica Lind stretches for a hold during a bouldering competition (climbing -- reach)

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: Louis Parkinson and Henry Heineman in this '80s-themed tribute to dynos, run-and-jump problems, and general ridiculous fucking around at climbing walls.

Still no climbing. However, I am working out, and this week I bench pressed 92 pounds. I was kind of impressed with myself. However, if I'm going to mantle, I need to do more than that. (sigh)

That's a fantastically silly video!

Alas, no climbing this week (I was supervision an electrician who over-ran). Maybe next week...

1. The new gym in Toronto is FINALLY open.
2. As a result of doing my lead test at (1), I learned that it is incredibly, incredibly hard to back-clip and z-clip on purpose, especially when on the ground.
3. MEC exchanged my I-give-up-on-breaking-these-in Miuras for half a size up, even though they were three months old.
4. I am going ice climbing this weekend (though I'm not sure this is glee or despair).

SO much glee!

First time ice climbing. I have previously avoided it on account of I am afraid of FREEZING TO DEATH. We'll see how it goes.... :)

Thank you! I was very impressed myself. Now it if it will just translate into the ability to mantle - eventually!

It did sound like your work week was nuts. My boss and I have decided there's something in the air making January and February crazy. We're hoping March calms down.

As a cold-hardy Canadian, I can confirm that you are entirely right. Ice climbing is miserable and ice climbers are insane.

(Also I am kind of excited for day 2.)

Cool; I went ice-climbing once at an indoor facility, but I've never tried it outside!

Inside?!?!

(I mean, I guess they have inside rinks for skating. But it still makes my brain hurt.)

Oh yes. It's like being inside a giant freezer. https://www.ice-factor.co.uk/adventures/indoor-ice-climbing/
