Friday glee is cold just watching

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. Oh, climbing in the cold SUCKS. I can't imagine doing it outdoors. Here in Florida, when it's cold, the gym never completely warms up. Holds hurt cold fingers.

Last week the gym was packed and I shared the auto-belay with a young boy who was probably about 7 or 8. His mother didn't speak much English. (I live in a college town, so we get lots of foreign students and families.) He was a hoot. I would climb him in, as he and his mother couldn't manage the carabiner's lock. Then he would climb and climb. I would cheer and his mother took video. I still managed to be exhausted after an hour, though I didn't really do any set routes. It was fun.

That looks bitter! I got a (French) 6B this week, which remains the highest grade I've ever done (well, one obviously-undergraded example notwithstanding), and I don't manage them very often, so very pleasing :)
