Friday glee is not having a mid-life crisis

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: The story of Mecca -- The Mid-Life Crisis. Martin Atkinson tells the story behind the first ascent of the iconic 8b+ sport route at Raven Tor.

As an added bonus, here's Alex Barrows on Kaabah, the 8c+ super-direct finish to Mecca.

I'm meeting my former climbing partner (the one who is so accident prone) this evening for coffee. I'm hoping this leads to eventual climbing!

Last week's trip to Harlow was pretty demoralising - one of those evenings when I'd get 1/2 way up a pretty easily-graded route and then just get stuck. This week, though, was much better. There were some fun new routes (not yet graded) to muck around on, and I climbed one of the easy routes that had defeated me last week.

My Cambridge-based climbing partners seem like they might be keen for some outdoor climbing if it ever stops raining, too :-)

There's nothing like victory over a route that's defeated you before!
