Friday glee is scrolling sideways

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: here is a ridiculously huge zoomable panorama of Stanage, complete with climbers.

I've finally been climbing again! My obsessively-kept UKclimbing diary tells me 8 September was the last time this happened. I had a slightly disappointing trip to Hen Cloud on Sunday, and then a really good time at the wall last night. I have sore fingertips this morning and everything :-)

We got there later than planned, so it was pretty busy. The only VDiff that we wouldn't have to queue for was Bow Buttress, so we went for that as a warm-up, and it was horrid (with the benefit of hindsight, I think the topo was inaccurate, too). I got my way to the top cleanly (with lots of thrutching, and plenty of grit rash), but my partner was having none of it, so we had to faff around retrieving the gear. By that point, we wanted some lunch, and then it started to rain, so we called it a day.

Basically, it was a poor choice of warmup (not that we were to know that), and we should have queued for one of the nicer easy routes. I got one tick, though. It's notable that UKClimbing users have ticked it as hard as you can for a VDiff, and selected 0 stars or "Bag of ..."...

I'm going climbing this morning, and I've already climbed three times this week, so that's great.

Unfortunately, all the climbing has aggravated the tendinitis in my left elbow! BOO-HISS! In the middle of last night's climb, my left little finger went numb. So I cut it short and came home and iced it. It's not numb this morning, and I'll take anti-inflammatories and hope for the best.

That's Quite A Lot of climbing :)

I hope your tendons behave themselves!

Yeah, it's obviously too much for me. (sigh) But I'll take it very easy this morning, come home and ice like crazy and I won't climb again until Monday.

I'd bail on this morning's climb, but it's with a new climbing friend who's desperate to climb. So I'll probably belay more than I climb. That'll help. (grin)

I made very useful discoveries about how much better I climb when wearing contacts rather than glasses, given no partner to help me find holds while I'm on the wall. So that? Is useful, and thus glee. Both in a way to get better results, and in a way to not be as upset at poor results on climbs when I have to go for glasses anyway.
