Friday glee is giggling

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: some ascents of the infamous Giggling Crack. Content warning for distant shots of post-offwidth vomiting.

Despite a continuing-to-be-unhappy achilles, I actually got climbing this week, and there were new routes :)

Nice! I'm glad you can do some climbing, even with the unhappy achilles!

I did not climb, but I did box one day and then last night went to see CREED II with my boxing coach, his family, Pat and a couple of other people from the boxing club. That was fun.

On Tuesday. I tried a new new tall orange 5.10C. A bunch of the beginning moves I definitely didn't do the way you're "supposed" to because I couldn't, but I made my way up those holds without rainbowing. I had to have my belay partner explain to me what the move was a couple times later on, and I definitely struggled, but I only rainbowed a few times near the top where I was tiring and really wanted/needed an additional foothold (and they were pretty small footholds, as the adjacent routes were a 5.12A and a 5.12C).

[I mostly climb at the 5.9/5.10A level, for context.]

That was my second climb of the night and it definitely wore me out (a familiar 5.10A and a familiar 5.9 that I did afterward felt harder than usual) but I finished out the night with the 5.10C that I've successfully done a bunch of times, and that actually felt easier than usual. Such a good route -- I'll miss that one when the reset the wall :(

I was at the gym today, along with every extended family member of every other climber in the East Bay (because it was raining and nobody could go on their post-Thanksgiving hike? I dunno). And there was a woman struggling up a 5.10C next to me, with her 15-yo son belaying and encouraging her.

She finally made it, and when she got down it became clear that it was her very first day climbing! And he'd sent her up a 5.10c! I was amazed, but she did it, and wasn't apparently too horrified. It was pretty funny.

...I am in the East Bay right now. What gym was this? (I am now kind of tempted to go try it, hahaha. I normally climb 5.9 to 5.10a, but maybe it's my day!)

Ironworks in Berkeley. It was crazy busy yesterday, but maybe the crowds will ease up
