Friday glee will never get tired of old school

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: a fabulous old film -- 70s/early 80s? -- of goings-on at Black Rocks and High Tor, starring the Bolger brothers and others.

That's some very old-school climbing on a pretty hard route! [E1 5b thinks ukclimbing] I think the copyright date is 1980.

France was excellent; Scotland was a wash-out - we had a great holiday but didn't climb anything because the weather was vile. So it goes...

I'm glad that you had a good trip to France. Hopefully you got some drinking done in Scotland to make up for the lack of climbing.

I am climbing this morning with the new partner. I have to say, her inexperience is difficult. She won't rappel and insists on down climbing, which she does poorly and she falls - which makes it nearly impossible to stop her fall with the slack in the rope she demands. I don't know if I'll last long with her. She's exhausting.

I am SO going to miss my young partner who is strong and fearless.

Your new-partner needs to learn to lower-off their climbs, stat. :-/

EGADS, yes. I finally had a "come to Jesus" meeting with her about it during our climbing. She down climbed once, and I said, "You have to stop this. It's not safe. I'm not feeling safe belaying you. Rappelling is safer for both of us." And a few other pointed comments about how she was exhausting me and not doing anything to benefit her climbing.

So she rappelled the rest of the time. Thank God.
