rydra_wong: "i like to climb alot". The xkcd stick figure climbs up the side of Hyperbole and a Half's yak-like "alot." (climbing -- alot)

Friday glee goes for a walk on Stanage

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: this lovely little film about Johnny Dawes's latest no-handed climbing experiments.

Completely off topic, but I'm reading Babel 17 for the first time, and when I opened it to the first page my immediate reaction was: OH! THAT'S WHERE RYDRA'S NAME COMES FROM! :D

That's cool. I've read quite a bit of science fiction, and one of our great friends is Joe Haldeman. (He's a cyclist, though, so he only shares Pat's sports and not mine.)

Cool.

My screen name comes from a literary connection. - Walker Percy. He's my all time favorite novelist.

I'm going climbing today on the auto-belay. I never did climb last weekend. Our dog, Rosie, who was 14 1/2 was not doing well. She had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in March, so I had a feeling the time was closing in and chose to be with her. We lost her on Monday, which was very hard.

So today, after I run errands, I will go and climb and it will ease the burdens on my heart a bit. Nothing helps me like getting on a wall.

Thank you. I think the climbing will help. You can't think about anything but the wall while you're on it. And I find that I come away from climbing happy, no matter what.
