Oh, climbing in the cold SUCKS. I can't imagine doing it outdoors. Here in Florida, when it's cold, the gym never completely warms up. Holds hurt cold fingers.
Last week the gym was packed and I shared the auto-belay with a young boy who was probably about 7 or 8. His mother didn't speak much English. (I live in a college town, so we get lots of foreign students and families.) He was a hoot. I would climb him in, as he and his mother couldn't manage the carabiner's lock. Then he would climb and climb. I would cheer and his mother took video. I still managed to be exhausted after an hour, though I didn't really do any set routes. It was fun.
