I mean, I know it's not fundamentally any different from, say, having decorative buckles or zippers all over something; it's taking something functional and making it a "feature".

And "tough rugged utilitarian" is a look that fashion's been playing with since forever, and that's why jeans are now standard human casual wear.

I just reserve the right to think it's hilarious.
