Friday glee draws the line at cola and landmines

The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

To enhance this week's glee, a mini Honnold-fest! He's over on these shores at the moment, so here he is solo-ing E8 6b (and apparently speaking decent French to the interviewer -- I don't speak French so have no clue what he's saying ...), flashing run-out E8 6c, and chatting to Niall Grimes in Pete's Eats for his podcast.

OK, that is way more soloing than I would be comfortable with!

I almost bailed on climbing this week as my calf was a bit sore, but I went along and took it gently and climbing (not absurdly hard things) on it went pretty well :-)

I think it's way more solo-ing than anyone who isn't Alex Honnold would be comfortable with. *g*

Yay for gentle climbing and keeping moving!

(Oh, I forgot my glee: led my first HVS yesterday evening! Sorry to brag but I feel I can be allowed a moment of self-satisfaction. *g*)

Latecomer Direct at Yarncliffe (HVS 5a in Pete O'Donovan's book). I'd previously done most of the start as a boulder problem, and after it joins up with the non-direct version it's HS 4b (and you can place some gear, which by that point is starting to seem like a priority), so it seemed like an obvious possibility to try to put it together at some point.

And I was at Yarncliffe and it felt like the right moment to give it a shot.
