The Friday post of glee is where you get to tell us about your climbing-related happiness this week.

It can be a new achievement or adventure, or just that you climbed and had fun; it can be that your favourite climbing wall is expanding or that you bought new rock shoes or that you found a cool ice-climbing vid on YouTube. No glee is too small -- or too big. Members are encouraged to cheer each other on and share the squee.

N.B. Please feel free to post your glee on any day of the week; the Friday glee is just to get the ball rolling.

To enhance this week's glee: Lizzy Asher's Highball Birthday Challenge.

I had one of those climbing sessions where nothing seemed to quite click, but I did manage a "6a" that I'd struggled with previously (the crux move is no way a 6a move...)

Very cool. But I hate it when you find that! I remember a 5.8 route that I did years ago that I actually argued with the setter about because the crux move was definitely NOT a 5.8 move. It was much harder.

I think sometimes setters do things SO easily they under-rate routes.

I was totally full of glee this week; I tried a super overhung 5.8 and figured I'd see how far I got before I fell off. The first time I made it about twelve feet before falling off like a Tarzan tryout, heh. I rested a bit and then, to my own surprise, finished the route. (When I made it past the part where I'd fallen before, I yelled "HA!" at the uncaring plastic, heh.) I tend to be a contemplative climber where I ought to be a speedier one, so it was also happy progress for me to realize *while on the route where I could do something about it* that if I sat around thinking about it that I'd run out of forearm, but if I got a move on, that I was going to finish it. Hooray!

Well, our climbing gym closed for good last week so that's not a source of glee, but tomorrow me and a friend will check out the one in the next village. I hope it'll be an adequate replacement. They do have a sauna which is included in the price, so I imagine that will be really nice in the winter especially.
